Welland Walmart evacuated after bomb threat

Police service dog Maverick was called in after a report of a bomb threat at Walmart in Welland.

On Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 8:43 p.m. the Niagara Regional Police Service communications Unit received an emergency 911 telephone call from an employee of Walmart, located at 102 Primeway Drive, in Welland ,indicating the store had received an anonymous call that there was a bomb inside the store.

Officers responded to the store and assisted staff with an evacuation of the premise. Police service dog Maverick, trained in explosive detection, was brought in to conduct a sweep of the premises, and it was concluded there were no explosives that posed any threat to employees or customers inside the store. At 9:44 p.m. the evacuation order was lifted.

Detectives assigned to the Welland criminal investigative branch have taken over the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1023300.
