Welland motorcyclist dies in collision in Niagara Falls

Driver, 53, died in hospital while 28-year-old female passenger, also from Welland, listed in serious condition after collision with car shortly after 1 p.m.

A motorcyclist has died and his passenger was in hospital following a collision in Niagara Falls Wednesday afternoon.

Police and emergency crews responded to the crash that took place at around 1:10 p.m. on Lundy’s Lane between Kalar Road and Beaverdams Road.

Niagara Regional Police alongside the Niagara Falls Fire Department and Niagara Emergency Medical Service paramedics were on the scene.

Initial investigation determined a 2020 red Toyota Corolla was travelling west on Lundy’s Lane when a collision occurred with an eastbound 2023 blue Yamaha R1 motorcycle, according to police.

Both people on the motorcycle sustained serious injuries and were transported to hospital by paramedics. 

The driver, a 53-year-old Welland resident, died in hospital. 

His passenger, a 28-year-old female from Welland, remained in hospital Wednesday evening and was listed in serious condition.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation, Niagara Regional Police said in a news release.

Detectives assigned to the NRPS collision reconstruction unit were investigating along with detectives from the forensics unit. 

Witnesses and motorists who were in the area with an operational dash-camera were being asked to review their footage and contact the lead detective at 905-688-4111, option 3, badge 1009206 with any relevant information.
