Victims in St. Catharines deaths identified as two 75-year-olds

Police release names with permission of family in connection with suspicious deaths Monday

With the consent of their family, Niagara Regional Police have identified the victims in relation to two suspicious deaths in a St. Catharines home earlier this week.

Police say the victims are Celine-Marie Owens and Harold Owens, both age 75.

On Monday at 12:15 p.m. police responded to an assist ambulance call at a residence on Elma Street, near Scott Street and Dorothy Street.

When officers arrived on scene, two people were found deceased inside the house.

"The Niagara Regional Police Service recognizes that this has been an impactful and emotional time for our community; residents in the area of where this occurred are a close-knit community and have been helpful and cooperative with detectives," police said Wednesday in a news release.

Police said the scene remains an active investigation by the Homicide Unit, along with detectives from the 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) Detective Office, Forensic Services and the Office of the Coroner.

There remains a heavy police presence in the area where the incident took place, while a forensic investigation is on-going. 

Police said Wednesday that no arrests have been made and officers continue to work to identify those responsible.
