Police respond to firearms call in Niagara Falls

One person charged after officers locate replica Glock 17 airsoft firearm loaded with a single 9mm round of ammunition

On Sept. 28, 2023 at 8 p.m., Niagara Regional Police officers responded to a disturbance in the area of Huggins Street near Portage Road in the City of Niagara Falls.

When officers arrived the disturbance was over, however it was reported that an individual involved had brandished what was believed to be a black handgun. Officers located the individual a short distance away and placed him under arrest. Search incident to arrest, officers located a replica Glock 17 airsoft firearm equipped with an optical laser. It was found to be loaded with a single 9mm round of ammunition.

Matthew Allan Chisholm (18 years) of Welland has been arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
    •    Pointing a firearm
    •    Possession of a weapon
    •    Careless Use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition

Chisholm remained in police custody and was scheduled to attend a bail hearing Friday St. Catharines.
