Package with 4 kg of 'illegal narcotics' surfaced in St. Catharines

The package, originated from Germany, was destined for a St. Catharines address and contained around four kilograms of ketamine; its street value is approximately $145,000, police say

Niagara Regional Police detectives are investigating an international package containing illegal drugs.

In early January, detectives were contacted by officers from the Canada Border Service Agency and were alerted to a package that had been shipped to Canada and found to contain illegal narcotics. The package, which contained approximately four kilograms of ketamine was destined for a St. Catharines address. Originating from Germany, the package had an approximate street value of $145,000.

Detectives from the St. Catharines Street Crime Unit were assigned to the investigation and were assisted by detectives from the Special Investigative Services Unit.  

On Tuesday, Jan. 24, as a result of the ongoing investigation, a search warrant was executed at a St. Catharines residence.

Xuan Anh Vo, 64, of St. Catharines has been arrested and charged with importing more than one kilogram of an illegal substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking. He was held in custody for to a video bail hearing today.
