Homicide detectives assigned to case involving death of man

Detectives do not have reason to believe there is an ongoing threat to public safety stemming from this incident

On Monday, April 10 at about 8 p.m., officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to a call to assist an ambulance in St. Catharines.

Officers arrived on scene to a multi-unit housing complex on Louth Street near Valley Road. Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics treated a male, 34 years, who was found to be in critical condition. The male victim despite resuscitative efforts was pronounced deceased at the scene.

As a result of the initial investigation two males were arrested at the scene.

Ryan Johan Orland Logtenberg, 42, of St Catharines has been charged with the criminal code offences of:

  • Manslaughter
  • Fail to comply with release order

Shawn Robert Dearl Montgomery, 45, of Niagara Falls has been charged with the driminal code offences of:

  • Manslaughter
  • Fail to comply with release order

Both were held in custody to attend a video bail hearing on Tuesday, April 11, at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.

This remains an ongoing investigation. Detectives from the. homicide unit have been assigned to the investigation. They are being assisted by detectives from the forensics services unit and the St. Catharines detective office. Detectives do not have reason to believe that there is an ongoing threat to public safety stemming from this incident.
