Niagara Regional Police say that at around 11:50 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to the area of Four Mile Creek and Line 4 Road for a serious collision.

Police said their initial investigations determined a silver Subaru driven by an 80-year-old male was travelling northbound on Four Mile Creek Road when the vehicle crossed the centre line and collided with a blue Ram pickup truck travelling southbound driven by a 65-year-old female.

The driver of the Subaru was transported by Air Ornge to an out-of-region hospital with life threatening injuries, and tragically, died later in hospital, the police reported Wednesday.

The passenger in the Subaru was transported by Air Ornge to an out-of-region hospital and is also in critical condition, police say.

The driver of the Ram suffered minor injuries.

As of about 7:30 p.m., Four Mile Creek remained closed between Line 3 Road and Line 4 Road. The public was asked to find alternate routes and avoid the area.
