Busy Niagara Falls RIDE check sees driver have licence suspended

A different driver was charged with failing to comply with demand

On Thursday, July 13, 2023, members of the Niagara Regional Police Service and Niagara Parks Police conducted RIDE spot checks in the City of Niagara Falls.

Throughout the night, officers stopped approximately 545 vehicles and inquired if any of the drivers had consumed any alcohol or drugs earlier in the evening. In total, 26 drivers provided a sample of their breath for analysis. Four drivers provided samples that resulted in an “Alert” which then resulted in a three-day licence suspension, and one driver was arrested and charged with failing to comply with demand.

Nine provincial offence notices were also issued related to traffic offences throughout the evening.

The Niagara Regional Police Service remain committed to reducing impaired driving offences through education and the apprehension of offenders through enforcement programs like RIDE Impaired driving is still the leading criminal offence causing deaths in Canada.

This initiative has been made possible, in part, as a result of grant funding from the Ministry of the Solicitor General as part of the Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program.
