21-year-old charged after robbery at store in Port Colborne

Police say the suspect fled the scene and was eventually arrested after being spotted in a vehicle in Welland

On Friday, April 14, 2023, at 9:29 a.m. Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) uniform officers assigned to 6 District (Port Colborne) responded to a robbery that had just occurred at Happy Market Convenience Store, located at 48 Main Street East, in the City of Port Colborne.

The investigation determined a male suspect entered the store armed with a knife and demanded money from a female employee. The suspect proceeded to flee the scene with an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency and was last seen getting into a vehicle and going in an east bound direction. 

There were no physical injuries as a result of this incident.

Detectives assigned to the 3 District (Welland/Pelham) Criminal Investigative Branch assumed control of the investigation.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., detectives located the suspect vehicle being operated in the City of Welland. The vehicle was followed by police for a short period of time before it pulled into a parking lot and stopped. 

Detectives and 3 District uniform officers coordinated an arrest plan and safely took the suspect into custody while the vehicle was stopped. 

21-year-old Brady Plante of the Town of Thorold has been charged with the Criminal Code offence of robbery. 

He is currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Saturday April 15, 2023, at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.

Detectives believe that the accused is the sole person responsible for this robbery and there are no other suspects being sought.
