August 2, 1941 – March 4, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Willem (Bill) Huyzers, 82, on March 4, 2024, of St. Davids, after a 4½ year battle with cancer.

Willem was born August 2, 1941 to Maarten and Frederika Huijzers in Willemstad, Netherlands. After serving as a young man in the army, he married and move to Canada in 1971. He worked as a welder at the Port Weller Dry Docks in St. Catharines for the better part of a decade then made a career change becoming a long-haul driver in the trucking industry. Bill spent many happy years in retirement doing what he loved most, travelling. He returned to the Netherlands on many occasions to visit family, drove coast to coast across North America, and sailed the seas on many cruises.

Bill is survived by his loving partner Bonnie Gillliam and her children Steve (Brenda) and Linda (Paul). He was a proud father to Andre (Tobi, and daughter Mackenzie) and Cindy Huyzers; and opa to Megan (Gabriel) and Steven Verbeek. Back home, in the Netherlands, he is survived by sisters Maaike, Cor, Aagje, and Nel. Willem is predeceased by brother Gerrit and sisters Teuntje and Riki. Bill will be remembered for a strong work ethic and silly sense of humour. Arrangements have been entrusted to Passfield Mortuary Services Inc. St. Catharines.

A celebration of life will be held at Creekside Senior Estates, 23 Four Mile Creek Road, St. Davids on Sunday, April 14, 2024 from 2 to 4 pm. The family appreciates all of your support and, in lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 350 Port Dalhousie, the Poppy Fund).
