ANDERSEN, Mary Elisabeth (nee Petrie)

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mary Elisabeth Andersen (nee Petrie).  A beloved friend, mother, sister and Nana left us peacefully, on February 3, 2024 at the age of 76.

Retired after many years employed by CN Rail. She was hired on as a Brakesman and eventually advanced to Engineer.  She devoted so much of her life to her family.  She loved unconditionally and deeply and never hesitated to help any person, or animal in need.  Throughout her life Mary saved countless kittens, cats, squirrels and birds, often hand feeding them until they were strong enough to be set free, or until she found them a home.

Predeceased by her wonderful parents, Alward and Frances Petrie.  Mary will be forever missed by her children, David Penner, Cristina Penner, Debbie Palinko, and Maj-Britt (Monk) Kannegieter, as well as her grandchildren, Cody Penner, Quentin Palinko, Julia Penner, Nyah Kannegieter, and Zoe Kannegieter.  She is also survived by her loving siblings, Margaret Banks and Michael (Karen) Petrie.  Her precious cats will always feel her absence.  Each one held a special place in her heart.

A special thank you to Babes, Mom’s dedicated nurse, who was a continuous ray of sunshine for all of us.  Loving and kind, you will always be remembered.

In honouring Mary’s wishes, a Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, February 17, 2024, between 2:30 p.m. & 5:00 p.m. at West St. Catharines Senior Citizens Centre, 117 Chetwood Street, St. Catharines.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in her memory to Niagara Falls Community Cats by Etransfer to: [email protected].  Donations would help continue their mission to trap, neuter and home cats and kittens born on the streets.  Arrangements entrusted to Considerate Cremation & Burial Services, 26 Nihan Drive, St. Catharines (between Lake Street & Scott Street), 289-362-1144.  Online condolences may be made at CCBSCares.ca
