NOTL Wolves teams come home with gold

Both the Niagara-on-the-Lake U16 A Wolves and the NOTL U9 teams came home champions after tournaments played in minor hockey associations in other areas.

Both the Niagara-on-the-Lake Uner 16 A Wolves and the NOTL Under 9 teams came home champions after tournaments played in other areas.

The NOTL Wolves U9 team travelled to Bradford last weekend for the Friday through Sunday Bradford Blue and Gold Classic Hockey Tournament.

They won their first two games in convincing fashion against the Humber Valley Sharks and North York Knights. Game 3 was a hard-fought battle against the host Bradford Bulldogs that ended in a tie, 3-3.

The Wolves ended up facing the same host Bulldogs once again in the championship game Sunday. It turned out to be another close battle, ending up tied 2-2 at the end of the third period.

The U9 Wolves came out on top in overtime, when Dean Pagnotta set up Ryan Riddle, who knocked in the game-winning goal in exciting style. Stellar goaltending from Peter Kotsanis was key to the Wolves’ success throughout the weekend.

The NOTL Wolves U16 A team played four games over a three-day tournament last weekend and finished undefeated with an impressive 0-loss, 1-tie and 3-win record.

The Wolves overtook West Niagara in the finals 2-1 in the annual Doug Robinson All Star Challenge hosted by West Niagara Minor Hockey Association.
