Virgil town hall to remain closed until Oct. 1

The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake's emergency control group has decided to extend the closure of Town administration buildings, which includes the Virgil town hall, until Oct.1.

The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake's emergency control group has decided to extend the closure of Town administration buildings, which includes the Virgil town hall, until Oct.1.

With students getting back into classrooms and increasing their interactions with others, this decision is intended to help minimize contact and lessen the possible ripple effect of a potential outbreak, a Town media release says.

“Every decision we’ve made thus far, and will continue to make, is with the intention of protecting the health and safety of our staff and the public,” says interim CAO Sheldon Randall.

Although some Town facilities remain closed to the public, staff remain dedicated to providing friendly, accommodating, and efficient service online and over the phone, the release says. Additional curbside dropoff (via drop box) and pickup accommodations are being made, as required. To make arrangements for these accommodations, please contact the town hall at 905-468-3266.

The current status of Town-owned facilities remains as follows:

The Meridian Credit Union Arena and Centennial Arena are open for summer camp activities only.

The community centre is open for summer camp activities and pickup from Sweets & Swirls Café.

The NOTL Courthouse is open for the Chamber of Commerce and use of the Market Room as a town cooling station only.

The Niagara-on-the-Lake Public Library is closed to the public but offering curbside pickup and online services/engagement.

The Queenston Library remains closed.

The Town administration buildings are closed to the public but providing curbside dropoff and pickup, service online and over the phone

Further reopening announcements of some of these buildings are anticipated within the next week, the Town’s news release says.
