Reif Estate Winery will be hosting a Mother's Day Market supporting Birchway Niagara, a women's shelter dedicated to providing support and resources to women and children who are victims of domestic violence.

The market, taking place both Saturday and Sunday of Mother’s Day weekend will feature over 40 vendors, live music, and a variety of activities perfect for celebrating mom.

A portion of the proceeds from the Grand Tasting Bar will be donated to Birchway Niagara.

“As a cornerstone of the Niagara community since 1982, Reif Estate Winery has proudly supported over 100 local charities. This time, we are thrilled to join hands with Birchway Niagara to honour the strength and resilience of mothers everywhere,” said Klaus W. Reif, Reif Estate Winery’s owner and president.

“Our Mother's Day Market is not just about celebrating, but also about giving back and supporting those who need it most. Together, let's create a meaningful experience that uplifts and empowers our community,” he said.

The website for Birchway Niagara offers a plethora of support and services for those experiencing domestic abuse, including information on legal help, staying safe, finding shelter, as well as help for children, and for those in the LGBTQ+ families.

"Birchway Niagara is grateful for the support of community events like the Mother’s Day Market at Reif Estate Winery,” said Jennifer Gauthier, executive director at Birchway.

“Meeting the increasing need for domestic violence services and providing programs to end the violence are only possible when communities work together as allies to end the epidemic of intimate partner violence."

Attendees can expect a vibrant atmosphere filled with opportunities to find the perfect gifts for mom.

Live music will be performed by Niagara’s local band, Feverish Lemons, throughout the day on Sunday, adding to the festive ambiance, and creating a memorable experience for all who attend.

Wine tastings and lunch will be hosted by Norcini & Co., and vendors include Niagara Homespun Botanicals, dog gone gear, Coconut Quartz, The Butter Tart Snack, Niagara Kung Fu Academy, Rolling in the Dough, Oliv, Let’s Get Sauced, Knots of Love and many more.

Community Initiative for Animal Rescue, newly formed by Tanya Rice, former volunteer for NOTL Cat Rescue, will also be at the market. Rice has branched off to form the non-profit organization, which is making its debut appearance and is selling chocolates, some in the shape of kitten and puppy paws, to support the purchase of a large cat enclosure to be used for cat adoption days at Virgil’s PetValu.

During last year’s national Pet Adoption week, Rice noticed that the enclosure at PetValu was only big enough to showcase two kittens.

“Rescue groups struggle to get cats and kittens adopted,” said Rice, who will donate proceeds from the market toward a new enclosure.

A larger enclosure can hold up to “perhaps double and then some,” said Laura Kott, PetValu owner. “It will fit a litter of kittens.” The cost of a new enclosure is approximately $3,500.

Admission to the Mother's Day Market is free. The market is open for two days,  May 11 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, May 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Reif Estate Winery, 15608 Niagara Parkway, Niagara-on-the-Lake.
