Ricky Rap: A reflection on anger

Rick Mills puts into action a lesson learned from Simon Peter

Ricky Rap is a list of 10 thoughts and offerings from Niagara’s own Rick Mills. Retired from more than 30 years of management in the steel industry, he continues pastoral ministry here in town. Ricky Rap, he says, is intended to help us to believe in and laugh at ourselves.

1. In 2023 I read the memoir from a now Anglican priest, who was raised here in Niagara on the Lake.

2. Our paths unknowingly crossed in high school.

3. His story tells of being raised in a Dutch immigrant family, experiencing domestic violence.

4. While reading the book I found myself upset with his father.

5. Actually, angry and not liking him.

6. The author mentions his dad being buried near where my parents are.

7. Recently found the gravestone and noticed a collection of mold, difficult to read.

8. There was a day I would have maybe spit on it; went back and scrub-washed it instead.

9. A curative exercise.

10. "Love covers a multitude of sins" — Simon Peter
