Region marks national day of awareness for MMIWG2S

Flags were lowered to half-mast and attendees participated in a symbolic walk of solidarity and peace

Representatives from local Indigenous organizations, Niagara Region staff, Niagara Regional Police and members of the public gathered at Niagara Region Headquarters in Thorold on Friday to recognize the National Day for Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirits.

"In honour of those whose voices that have been silenced, all flags were lowered to half-mast and attendees participated in a symbolic walk of solidarity and peace, led by Indigenous women singers and drummers," writes Janine Tessmer, communications consultant, strategic communications and public affairs, Niagara Region.
