Niagara-on-the-Lake council recognized the Electrifying Eels swim team during Tuesday night's committee-of-the-whole meeting following the group's recent second-place finish at a Niagara Swim League regional competition held in August at Brock University.

The team consists of about 40 swimmers, ages five to 16. Those in attendance Tuesday were called to the front of the council chamber and given a medal by Coun. Sandra O'Connor before having their photo taken outside, in front of town hall.

The team, made up of swimmers from St. Davids and Memorial Park Pools, practised at both pools throughout the summer and competed at Memorial Park as well as at other pools across the region.

The coaches were Ella Carrique and Sierra Kelly, former lifeguards at the town pools.
