The last session before summer break of the popular Learn & Live series is fitting for this town: How to Direct a Play.

On June 10, Kimberley Rampersad, associate artistic director of the Shaw Festival Theatre, will be sharing her approaches to directing for the stage.

After last year’s successful How to Watch a Play, with Shaw’s artistic director Tim Carroll, “we've decided that we'd like to have a Shaw company member present every year,” said Terry Mactaggart, co-founder of Learn & Live.

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Rampersad is a graduate of the University of Manitoba and has worked in theatre for 25 years. She began as an actor-singer-dancer and now also works as a choreographer, director and artistic administrator.

Rampersad is co-director and choreographer for this year’s My Fair Lady, and director for Cotton Club.

Her work has taken her across the country and also includes Stratford Festival and Mirvish Theatre. This fall she will be making her U.K. debut directing and choreographing The Red Shoes for the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Register for this free event by accessing the events page on the NOTL Public Library’s website. Rampersad will share her expertise from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m.

“Stay tuned,” said Mactaggart, “because we have some really good possibilities for the fall.” Details about upcoming Learn & Live sessions will be published later this summer.
