Irish Harp bingo night raises $3,000 for Red Roof Retreat

The local pub has a long-standing history of supporting Red Roof Retreat and other local charities with its fundraising efforts

The Irish Harp is hosting another of its series of popular events to raise money for Red Roof Retreat, with the first one held to a full house Wednesday evening.

Red Roof is a cause Jovie Joki, owner of the local pub has embraced in the past, including hosting bingo nights last year. She enlisted the help of Ward Simpson, who is again offering his expertise as a bingo caller, developed during about four decades of manning the Virgil Stampede bingo tent.

Simpson has been very active with Red Roof Retreat since its earliest days, including as chairman of the board, and helping to raise money to fund respite and recreational programs for those with special needs and their families.

Executive director Steffanie Bjorgan was at the Irish Harp Wednesday and said it was a lot of fun as always, especially thanks to Simpson’s participation. She also thanked Joki for raising $3,000, and The Local for sponsoring the event.

The next bingo night is April 17.
