The wheels of justice continue to grind slowly in the case of Richard Lowes.

Mark Evans, lawyer for Lowes, was back in a Welland courtroom on Friday, Oct. 27. It was the 37th court appearance in the matter stemming from March 2021, when Lowes was charged with three counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual interference with a person under the age of 16. Evans said that he had been in discussions with Assistant Crown Prosecutor Stephanie Ford with regard to a resolution, and requested that the matter be adjourned to November 10 at 9 AM, which was granted by Justice of the Peace R. J. Whalen.

A court-ordered publication ban is in place, prohibiting the release of names of the victims and other details. A butcher by trade, Lowes owns and operates the Country Corner Market, at Quaker Road and Line Avenue in Fonthill.
