LETTER: Proposed budget increase shows we don't need both municipal and regional governments

'There is absolutely no need for the duplication of services we see with this multiple tiered government,' the letter writer says

The following letter to the editor was submitted to The Niagara-on-the-Lake Local in response to this article published on July 28, 2023.

Just read you article on the Niagara Region proposed nine per cent budget increase.

A couple things.

First of all, I'm not a politician a journalist or an economist.

Secondly, as a regular person a proposal like this speaks volumes to the lack of need for at least one level of government.

For years I have waffled between the need for municipal  vs regional government.

If our Regional government thinks a nine per cent increase is necessary then my vote goes to keep municipal and get rid of regional. They are simply out of touch with reality.

There is absolutely no need for the duplication of services we see with this multiple-tiered government.

I am writing this to you with the desire, hope and trust that this topic becomes a priority in the next couple months.
