On Monday, May 29, 2023, officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service conducted a traffic initiative in Niagara Falls.

The goal was to remind drivers about safe driving habits that can help protect the lives of citizens and visitors in Niagara. It focused on the Highway Traffic Act offences associated to using cellphones while driving and drivers improperly wearing seat belts.

The initiative was in corroboration with the police traffic enforcement unit and the community oriented response and engagement unit. The education and enforcement initiative took place at the intersection of Main Street and Ferry Street in Niagara Falls. The four-hour initiative resulted in 29 tickets and the issuance of one suspension notice. Additionally, the licence plates of one vehicle were seized for plate related offences.

Distracted inattentive drivers remain one of the leading factors in motor vehicle collisions.

The police remains committed to achieving its identified goal of enhancing road safety, as outlined in the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan, says a police news release.
