RiverBrink fundraiser features work of its artists

The RiverBrink Off the Walls Art Sale sold work by local artists hanging in an exhibit at the Queenston art museum. Some of the paintings remain on the walls, still for sale.

RiverBrink Art Museum recently held an art sale fundraiser where you could literally buy a work of art off the walls. Over 200 pieces of art were donated by local artists, art lovers and individuals, which adorned the walls of the Queenston museum.

Almost 100 guests attended the opening, which included wine by Strewn Winery, hors d'oeuvres by Smoke & Barrel, and first dibs to purchase artwork.

Artwork for sale included a wide variety of media and subjects such as landscapes, still life, portraiture and abstract/non-objective works in acrylic, oil, mixed media, watercolour, pastels, etching and photography, in price points to please every art enthusiast. A highlight of the evening were three paintings offered for a silent auction.

Money raised at the sale will support general programming and exhibitions at the Art Museum and improved accessibility to the grounds. This project will allow RiverBrink to expand outdoor activities such as the Orchard of Dreams garden party and On the Brink Art Installation Festival

Another exciting project RiverBrink is supporting through ticket sales to the fundraiser is the next kilometre of the Heritage Trail running through Queenston. This trail is the only unimproved multi-use trail in Niagara-on-the-Lake. It dissects the epicentre of the wine route in NOTL, and is a key destination for cycling, eco-tourism and agri-tourism.

This fundraiser is envisioned as a biennial event, and in the meantime purchases of other art work by local artists can be made in the gift shop at RiverBrink. Some of the Off the Walls exhibited during the fundraiser remain for sale.
