St. Mark’s Anglican Church is re-launching its Speaker Series this October with a very special event: Our Secret Heart: Ben Heppner in Conversation With Karen Heppner.Ka

Canadian tenor Ben Heppner, Companion of the Order of Canada, is a legend in the opera world. He grew up in remote Dawson Creek, B.C., and became the toast of all the great opera stages of the world, from the Metropolitan Opera in New York to the Salzburg Festival.

Heppner sang with all the great operatic conductors, including Sir Georg Solti, Sir Colin Davis, Sir Simon Rattle and many more. Three of his signature roles were Walter in Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg, Tristan in Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, and Florestan in Beethoven’s Fidelio. But he also shone in the operas of Berlioz, Richard Strauss and Verdi. He has recorded on many labels, including Deutsche Grammophon, and RCA Victor, in complete operas and programs of arias and songs, where the glories of his voice in his prime can be heard.

Now retired from singing, Heppner has carved out a niche for himself as a radio personality and sought-after speaker. He will be at St. Mark's to talk to his wife — and the audience — about his career as one of the world's most renowned tenors, life in the world of opera, and his personal faith.

This event will held Monday, Oct. 17 at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $35. There will be a limited number of VIP tickets ($60 each) for a reception with Ben and Karen following the event.

Tickets are available through the church office. Call 905-468-3123 or email [email protected]
